The story behind it
01/12/2011
"Looooong Shots | Brambles in the freezer", 2011.
This story is a Looooong one! Its the time to, finally after many photographs and a lot of tweaks, disclose the "Looooong Shots" Project. It has been a technical challenge. Several, actually.
Now it is time for you to enjoy. This shot is one of them. Several others are under Projects.
Notes: visualisation quality is poorer than print and loupe image size is smaller than print.

Technical issues
01/12/2011
This photograph results from a stitch of 18 photographs, taken with DSLR and a monopod. After taking them I resorted to appropriate software to do the job. It didn't require a ND grad filter, since the exposure to the frost is similar to that of the highly lit background leaves. The reason why I used a monopod is that I didn't have the tripod with me. The practice of respecting the nodal axis is something that you can anyhow acquire. The diaphragm was set at f/2.8, focusing on the frozen bramble.
Critial review
01/12/2011
The spectacular visual impact and what this photograph transmits in its detail and scale allow the observer's mind to be transported to the place. This is one of the objectives of the "Looooong Shots" Project.
The focus on the close pane and the use of a large aperture is unusual in this kind of photography ("panoramic" type). Such combination results in more effective imaginary mind travels.

Where you should place it
01/12/2011
The proportions of the photograph are unsual, with length reaching above 2,5 meters and a width of close to 40 cm.
It fits into a visual objective, in this case, horizontal. It requires an area and wall with the corresponding dimensions.

As always, directed and dedicated light will make it come alive.
Concerning framing, this sort of dimensions demand for a bit more of structure to hold firm.
