The story behind it
01/10/2011
I am walking in the mountains, on a serra that had for long been winking her eyes at me (Serra Amarela - Yellow Serra). I take with me a map and am with a friend. We follow freely, guided by our senses and intuition, in the open landscape. Later, during lunch, sheltered by some rocks, we see several large birds of prey, wild horses and cows. A small fox turns up, heading towards us, wandering. I can nearly imagine his shock when he sees us! After that, we manage to go a long way, tiptoeing through the hills, surrounded by the colour Yellow.
Technical issues

For this photograph, I used a DSLR with the 24mm lens at f/2.8. I wanted to only focus a certain area, blurring all the rest. The fog helped in the saturated colours and no shadows, also making the sky disappear. Since the ground was the alternative, rich with content, remnants of life and history, I get down to the ground. With such quantity of light in the air, and the large aperture, 100 ISO resulted in an exposure of 1/1000s. It has almost no post-processing.
Critial review

The photograph is made of lens distortion, blurring vs focus and composition. The distortion has helped in visually dilating the foreground (with the burnt twigs and roots, new leaves and the rocks), while compressing the background (with the central bush playing an important part). The thirds composition and the use of diagonals, while centering the skeleton of the large bush at the back, ended in a simple yet aesthetically strong photograph. The blurring vs focus, together with the diffused lights, give it a dream-like mood.
Where you should place it

Well, what shall I say? This is a high-key photograph, i.e., with a considerable amount of high lights. In this sense, it is not a particularly demanding photograph in lighting the print on a wall. But it's always best. Regarding the frame, I imagine it without any pass-par-tout, and with a thick light-coloured wooden frame. But keep in mind that this is a matter of personal taste.
