The story behind it

A loooonngggg story! It began with the Autumn photo, from the same place & angle, that Alma Lux presented 1 year ago (10/07 cover). Since then I took a Winter one, with snow and the naked trees. Same camera and lens. The Summer photo came two years later: the first were too dark, too compensated; this time I had to displace a heavy laying wooden electrical post, 1 or 2 meters away; there was rubbish on the forest floor; there are other differences, but the beeches, birches and oaks are still there.
It's a place for paying a visit and respect. It belongs to the trees and to the World.

Still have the Spring one missing!

Technical issues

It was taken with a analog camara, Fuji Velvia 50 professional film, 24mm lens and tripod. I used hiperfocal distance, with a closed diaphragm. Compensation was around -2 EV, with matrix measurement. Another way to do it was to measure exposure by the 18% luminosity areas. I state this because this photograph is, in fact, of critial lighting: no compensation leads to over-exposure, burning up the light green and few blue colours; slide will simply not allow under-exposure either. Resorting to HDR would not satisfy me, but it would be a "combat" solution, yes.
Critial review

This is a "low-key" photo. It transmits a sense of density, darkness, and even protection under the forest canopy. The wide angle provided volume and perspective. It follows the rules of
"straight photography", as I prefer to do.
But, dear web-surfer, in these times of anniversary, I want to make use of my freedom to especially and emotionally get involved in this: it's a result from the Autumn photo, marvellous and unique; it's a result of good work; the Winter one is also singular, having been there the day after one of the largest snow falls of last years; it is forest, for which I walk and photograph; these are oaks and beeches, two of my favourite species. This time, my critical view stays that way!

Where you should place it

Coming from low ISO professional film, the quality that you finish with on a print is magnificent - it attracts your eyes and captivates thoughts. Guess: it goes great with the Autumn and the Winter photographs! Still need the Spring one, I know.
Printed large or small, especially going together, these are unique. On a living room, I would say. It requires good, not direct, light.  The green colours and the details will be set free.
