The story behind it

"The Independent Heart"
I'm at the Ajuda Palace, to see the exhibition of Joana Vasconcelos. My goes crazy, and I with it. Joana combines elements of Nature, and not only that, with that monumental architecture and splendour.
Without using a tripod, because it is not authorized, I play with the light, ISO and compositions that inspire me even more.
I arrive at this room, where fado is playing with Marisa singing "Strange way of life" (in Portuguese). The voice of Marisa
echoes and so does the light of Joana Vasconcelos.
Technical issues

With my 24mm prime f/2.8 lens, I selected aperture f/4, ISO3200. The exposure time was 1/45s, with no tripod but with steady arms.
I also used a 8-point star filter, by Cokin. At post-processing, I enhanced the blacks and gave some further luminosity up in the ceiling areas.

Critial review

Excellent lighting and composition. The lit cord, the star filter effect on the lights, the people and paintings in the background provide a visual context of intimacy. The dim and directed light also help in this.
The captured moment is also interesting, with the people at the back, as if I was photographing the huge heart from the stage itself.

Where you should place it

Honestly, I see this photograph more in a magazine or book, related to the Museum or Joana's work, in this case. It is more of a descriptive nature, documenting an art piece in the context of a museum.
But if Marisa, the singer, or Joana, the artist, want to have it printed for their wall I will suggest a 24cm x 36cm or smaller print on a wall of a warm cosy room.
