The story behind it
01/09/2010
I am in the middle of the city. The mid-day sunlight is being diffused by high altitude ice clouds. So I keep taking some photographs, going along the streets. I see this closed shop, with graffiti that always call my attention. The light and textures are interesting. But what really captivated me were the decorations, with plants and a roaring lion on the top. He has his mouth wide open and sharp teeth. I especially appreciate the various ways to "bring Nature down to town". It shows power and is intimidating to the customer. Imagine the lion roaring!
Technical issues

I had no tripod at that moment. So I placed my arms as stable as possible. I reach exposure times of down to 1/10s. I was able to avoid the cars to my left and right, simplifying the composition. After having a set of pictures, crudely executing the "time-lapse" technique, I thought that the whole would make sense. For the ALP cover I chose to combine them in a video file, after mixing urban sounds with the roaring of a lion. What I had then imagined I later built in front of a PC, again bringing Nature down to the city.
Critial review

Independently of the support and form, I is a good example of how "seeing" makes part of the life of a photographer (or should be). "Seeing" beyond what physically is presented to you. In this case, a closed shop, with graffiti and people passing by. It is an example of "vision", i.e., of seeing beyond the obvious. A set of photographs, static or dynamic, is also photography. In this situation, a rigorous time-lapse was not the objective. The mocing of the camera between shots fits the noise and the roaring of the lion.
Where you should place it

This set of photographs, or independently, goes well in a place where the conceptual is the aim of the place. Or where "weird" combinations of things are brought about, e.g., Nature and Urbanism. These are photographs that are not particularly demanding in terms of light and colour. There is flexibility in their placement, either on paper or on screen.
