The story behind it
01/06/2009
Bilbao. The curves of Guggenheim, the light of the titanium panels and the glass inflorescences atract many cameras. There is a museum inside and many other attractions in the outside. From simple compact cameras to the most modern medium format ones, several types of people are out photographing the beautiful shades and lines of the building. I am on holidays and with company. So I only resort to my digital camera. I keep my other cameras and tripod parked inside my bag.
The city has combined the modernity of this area, along the river, with the old of the central casco antigo. There you have the usual action of the Spanish cities, among the very good tapas and a glass of wine.

Technical issues
01/06/2009
This photograph was taken with a DSLR, the Nikon D700, prime lens AF Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8D. It results from the stitching of three photographs, to generate a larger one without sacrificing the density of pixels/inch. The risk of using low exposure times without tripod, is very high. Only arms and fingers that do not shake will allow the photograph to keep sharp enough (fortunately my case), in those conditions. The alternative of increasing ISO wasn't my choice, for the least noise possible. The polarizing filter helped in managing the reflections on the titanium and glass.
Critial review
01/06/2009
Let me be clear on this - for a photograph for large printing, the tripod (and even mirror lock-up) are fundamental pieces for obtaining maximum quality and sharpness. But, also important, when having people that are with you it is not fair to ask them for patience and time to stand the rigour of the photographer. There is a time for eveything.
Stiching resulted in a larger size, with blending points that are nearly imperceptible. The stitching also tends to reduce any effect of shaking.
The composition harmoniously combines lines and curves, light and shade, textures and materials.

Where you should place it

It can be printed large, up to 52cm x 35cm, without any enlargement. Anyhow, maintaining exhibition quality, it still can stand a bit of enlargement. Printed large, it will invade your space with balance and harmony.
This is a nearly monochromatic photograph, going along well with any wall or decoration colours.
Apparently it will only go well in a place with modern lines, minimalistic and simple. But it will contrast very well with a place with rich details, textures and materials, because of its simplicity and shinning.
It requires simple and white lighting. Either with or without passpartout!
