May 2013
The story behind it
01/05/2013
"Pillar and curtain", 2013.
I am invited by a friend photographer to follow him for a photography outing on the 1st/May. Spring is booming in Brussels, and bright green leaves are sprouting. Light is reasonable for photography in the forest, but not perfect.
Birds sing everywhere, and constant rumbling motorway noise is in the background. We feel as if in a Nature bubble, still capable of keeping a small natural reserve. The wild garlic put up a show! But the strong beach trunks always keep a stronghold.

Critial review
01/05/2013
It is a powerful photograph. There are three major factors that contribute to such visual force, resulting emotionally powerful: composition, with the trunk at the centre; the contrast between the moving background and the staticity of the pillar; the depth and variety of green colours, giving a subtle idea about the forest interior. In this abstract expressionism account, present but unusual in this way in my Photography, forest light is present in a subtle way. So are shadows. The forces of Nature are present, especially through the combination of the subtle, the subliminal on the one hand, and the crude and strong on the other.
Where you should place it

By the nature of this image, it makes a simply spectacular giant print. It has the "WOW" factor that will impress whoever visits the place, a living room, an office or lobby. In day-to-day basis, this photograph will attract your look with long moments of awe and calm observation. Can be read in multiple ways, giving room for personal interpretation and emotion.
